The alarming surge of tornadoes in Kansas: A dire situation in April, May, and June
Kansas has always been known as the state for tornados ever since the Wicked Witch was killed by the flying house in the Wizard of Oz. The present state of weather and the increasing global temperature has only made it worse.
Why are Kansas Tornados Increasing this Year?
Several Kansas newspapers have reported that the number of tornadoes in 2024 has already surpassed the number of tornadoes in 2023. To put this into perspective, at least 40 tornadoes had been reported as of May 17, 2023. This is a significant increase compared to the same period last year. The tornadoes have been observed statewide from the western border of Kansas near Kearney County to the upper northeast in Riley County, Kansas.
The Kansas City metro area has been a victim of severe weather in the past weeks. In mid-May 2024, high wind speeds clocked at 80 mph in Salina, Kansas, were the subject of a massive storm system coming from the west. The high winds and interaction of circular weather patterns often bring on tornadic activity.
Meteorologists report that climate change from warm weather is a leading cause of this increasing pattern of severe thunderstorms combined with tornadoes.
Tornadoes are like catastrophic accidents caused by human error but are brought on by global warming from humans releasing too many emissions worldwide into the atmosphere. In turn, the earth warms, and catastrophic storms occur from mother nature which is incited and increased by human neglect.
Car accidents that cause injury and death are much like the tornadoes. Negligent people drive causing a pattern of destruction that is not dissimilar to the severe storms caused by global warming.
Accuweather reported that Tornado Alley has had tornadoes touch down in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. They also reported that the tornadic activity has increased by 100 times from earlier reported times.
When local news stations KWCH, KAKE, and KSN issue a severe tornado warning, it's not a time for hesitation. It's a time for swift action. Your first priority should be to seek shelter in the basement, ensuring the safety of your family and pets. The severity of these storms is escalating, causing significant damage to homes, businesses, and lives. Being prepared can make all the difference.
