How Dangerous Are Drunk Drivers on Halloween?
The Danger of Drunken Drivers during the Holiday
Parents need to be aware that Halloween creates a perfect storm for trick-or-treating children to be injured by drunk drivers. Out of all the holidays, Halloween is known as the 3rd most dangerous holiday for drunk drivers. Many national and government institutions and organizations study the level of traffic accidents by drunk drivers on holidays and especially on Halloween.
Studies nationwide indicate that drunk drivers make up approximately 44% of all US traffic crashes during Halloween.
There is a much higher level of fatalities from traffic accidents and truck drivers on Halloween. Pedestrian accidents increase substantially during Halloween because of the increase in drunk drivers attending parties who sometimes run over innocent children and teenagers.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has many documented studies indicating that Halloween gives rise to this increased level of drunk driving which is assumed to be from older teenagers, young adults and older adults celebrating with too much alcohol and failing to use designated drivers.

Why do more drunk drivers come out on Halloween?
The obvious reason is that people are attending Halloween parties and drinking too much alcohol. Nationwide traffic crashes with drunk drivers show that at least 38% of the fatal traffic crashes are from drivers who are above a BAC of .08 which is the national limit for drunk driving.
Pedestrians are especially at risk at night on Halloween since national studies establish that approximately 23% of all pedestrian fatalities involving traffic accidents are from drunk drivers recklessly running down innocent trick or treaters.
What number of drunk drivers will be out on Halloween 2021?
Because Halloween will be on Sunday in 2021, many national insurance organizations have concluded that Sunday is the third worst day of the week to have Halloween on. There is an expected increase of 22% to 34% in drunk driving accidents on this Halloween just because it is a Sunday. Because of this known fact, pedestrians and children have at least a 50% greater chance of being killed by a drunk driver. Parents need to monitor and supervise their children and keep an eye out for reckless drunk drivers out partying on this very dangerous holiday night.
